Hollywood - The Mecca of Aspiring Movie Stars
Hollywood is the world's movie capital dishing out numerous movies every year. The present area, in the 1870's belonged to an agricultural community and the Spanish and Native Indians had established their settlements growing crops and fruits of exotic varieties. A part of the land was later bought by H. J. Whitley, and it was his wife who coined the name Hollywood. H. J. Whitley is termed as the 'Father of Hollywood' and he navigated several plans for the new city and paved for Prospect Avenue which became the famous Hollywood Boulevard.
The era of filmmaking in Hollywood started in 1910 with the advent of the first motion picture, In Old California by prolific director D. W. Griffith. This melodrama was filmed in the village of Hollywood surrounding the beautiful scenery and depicting the Mexican life of California. The first motion picture studio in the region was built in 1909 by the Selig Polyscope Company and The Squaw Man directed by Oscar Apfel and Cecil B. DeMille became the first feature-length Hollywood movie to be rolled out on the big screens. The fame of Hollywood increased with its movies and movie stars and creators of dreams began arriving in thousands to Hollywood in search of a new life. Cameras cranked away, capturing images of custard pies, bathing beauties, comedy and tragedy, villains leering, heroines with long curls and heroes to save the day; and they built a new world to replace the lemon groves and exotic crops. Hollywood became an inspiration for several pioneers in the industry leading to some of the famous movie creations. This capital of film glamour is a district in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A buzzing with movie studios and stars.
The Old Hollywood era progressed through the 1920's by producing silent movies and the major studios RKO, Warner Brothers, Fox, Paramount, and MGM. Some of the genres common in Old Hollywood were westerns, comedies, and war-time films and later it opened the arena to the Golden Age of Hollywood which served an inspiration for the production of new-age movies. Classics like Hell's Angels, Gone with the Wind, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and Stage Coach saw the light of the big screens in this era giving the industry many talented actors like James Cagney, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart. Thousands of other movies were produced during the Golden Age of Hollywood with a substantial change in the themes, from that of their predecessors. The Modern Hollywood saw the production of TV Commercials and movie production for television. During this period the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame was created as a tribute to the artists of yesterday and today.
As I watched the Walt Disney Studios tour on my HD television powered by Dish TV Packages, I must say, it was one of the thrilling experiences. There are several famous Hollywood studios that have churned out world famous movies and stand today as historical monuments. The Charlie Chaplin Studios built in 1917, Paramount Studios, MGM, Culver Studios, Sunset Gower Studios, Walt Disney Studios, Raleigh Studios and many others turned out to be gates of the dream factories to several movie legends. There are hundreds of such studios now and on a visit to these studios, you can get a tour of studio's back lot, sets, sound stages and historic scenery or sometimes the chance of seeing a star behind or in front of the camera, which is awesome. Many of the studios will not offer tour to visitors and it's better to check before you land in front of the studio gates. Hollywood is surely a Mecca for aspiring actors and actresses trying to break into the reel world.

On The Road Again
Yesterday was rose garden day. As is the custom in Oregon there was light rain off and on, but not enough to spoil our trip, so off we went.
As expected our guests were quite impressed with the roses. They have over one hundred tea rose bushes themselves and she was very knowledgeable about roses.
She walked a lot more than she would have thought possible. I suppose her level of excitement allowed her to forget about her pain and discomfort. She wrote names in a notebook while he did camera duty. Most of the full blossoms were at least seven inches in diameter. I carried the tape measure to add to the photos proving the sizes.
We bought sausage dogs at a stand in the gardens and sat outside to eat them. I thought she might wilt but she mustered the strength to march on to the gift shop.
Finished with the rose gardens it was on then to buy the manzanita bush. The plan was to ask a nursery worker to bring it to the register and there would be limited walking. Arriving at the nursery it was evident that wasn't going to happen. It was a huge place and she was off and walking. She walked a lot pointing to plants she'd like to buy. They would have needed a truck to take it all home. Finally she settled on what we'd come for but instead of buying one she bought two.
They love sugar-free ice cream and had seen a Baskin Robbins on our way to the nursery. We stopped on the way home and while we were eating our ice cream it happened, she wilted. They both wilted. We were to have dinner last night with son and family but that never happened.
They decided to say their goodbyes in the hotel parking lot. It was about 2:00 p.m. but they were through. They were going to spend the afternoon napping, pack the car later in the day, and leave for home about 6:00 a.m. this morning. We've heard nothing more so I can only assume that's what happened.

Solution!
DarkUFO has posted an answer to the question "Blogger sometimes freezes and will not allow readers to comment.":
The other day Bob, very nicely, suggested "I might want to color my hair." My response, NOT! Have you heard the saying "the pot calling the kettle black?" I think that's what that is.

Advantages Of A Blog
Advantages Of A Blog
Almost everything that has advantages have disadvantages but when the advantages of a particular thing out weighs the disadvantages then it becomes insignificant, this is why I will not be discussing the disadvantages of a blog, because honestly I feel there is none. Well, except that the regular fresh content a blog requires can always make you feel on edge.
The advantages of a blog cannot be over-emphasized. The biggest advantage I see is that blogs give people, everyone alike, rich or poor an equal chance to be on the online world and write freely about their opinions, feelings and thoughts on different topics and subjects and actually have people worldwide
read them!
Considering myself as an example. I love expressing myself, and writing gives me the opportunity to do that effectively. I have always wanted a medium where I could put my written contents and have a lot of people read it, so I wrote some articles on MLM and had it published in a local newspaper (Financial Standard Newspaper) in Nigeria. But you will agree with me that, that is limited. With a website I could address the world. But since I do not have a website design skill, it met I had to pay for the service and that presently could cost me N25, 000 or more ($170 or more) Wow! That's some money. You could imagine how I felt when I realized I could achieve my dream using a blog without spending a dime!
Blogs are easy and inexpensive to set-up
To set up a blog can take as little as 10 minutes and it involves just three simple steps (choose your blogging software, register your account and start blogging). After creating your blog, all you are required to do is to provide as many fresh contents as you can on a regularly basis . You don't have to spend a dime creating your blog because there are free versions available, but for a profitable blog, it is advised you use hosted Wordpress. A tutorial will be given in the nearest future on this blog on how to create hosted Wordpress blog. Hosted wordpress blog is server based and requires you get a domain name ($10 max.) and hosting service (could get for less than $10). You could get Alvin Phang's book, Atomic Blogging 3.0, it contains all you need to know about setting up a professional and profitable hosted Wordpress blog.Visit my blog for more on Atomic Blogging 3.0
Blogs are Search Engine Friendly
This advantage of a blog is one of reasons I love blogs. Your posts and pages are automatically linked by
blogs and that enables search engines spiders to find, crawl and index the blog. With relevant keywords in your blog Title, Meta tags, and the URL pages you could have your pages ranking higher in search engines. Meaning that when anyone type in your keywords into search engines, your page could be among the first few displayed list and that my friend, could relate to lots of free traffic to your blog!
Blogs attract more traffic for it fresh contents
Readers are attracted to blogs because of it fresh regular contents and if as a blogger you are passionate
about what you write about, and committed to providing fresh regular contents on it, thousands who are also passionate about that topic will on a regular basis visit your blog and if you keep updating it regularly with new contents, you will keep them coming.
Blogs creates room for online community
The in –built comment feed on blogs, enable readers to share their opinions about your pages and also start
discussions on different topics.
When you have commentators who provide good information, suggestions and advice, you could create unique relevant content from it and most importantly keep your traffic as they will keep coming to get updates on different topics.
Blogs have built-in RSS Feed
RSS which means Really Simple Syndication syndicate recent posts and deliver them to various blog search
engines and when your readers subscribe to your RSS Feed it automatically delivers your recent posts to their inbox.
Some advantages of a blog from an organizational perspective are as follows:
Blogs enable companies to keep their customers informed on a regular basis. They could post news about new products, policies and opportunities available and have it in front of their customers in a matter of minutes instead of having to send newsletter weekly or monthly.
That helps organizations to develop stronger relationships with their customers and build trust since they can
easily interact with them and get feedbacks.
Companies could drive traffic from their blog to their websites. Blogging also showcase the organization as professionals in what they do and they could build brand loyalty.
There are definitely other advantages of a blog, but these are the main ones I came up with. Now should you build a website or create a blog? To help you make the decision visit my blog again and read my next post, Static website vs. Blog. I will discuss more specifically the advantages of a blog over Static website.
